10 Running Questions

I found this survey on another blog and just sorta skimmed over it.  Running isn't exactly my thing at the moment.  It's a little of a sore topic since last weekend and this weekend are two of my favorite local races each year and I can't participate in either.  Cheering Alex on just isn't cheering me up!

After reading about half way through Tina's 10 Running Questions, I actually began to get interested, and then I went back to reread them all.  Rather than continue being bummed about all this beautiful running weather and fun races, I choose to get excited about what I've accomplished in the past and what I hope to accomplish in the future!  So in that spirit, I've decided to do a little reminiscing, and a little dreaming and bring you the answers to the running questionnaire.

1. Best Run Ever
How is it even possible to remember one specific run?  Perfect runs don't come around often, but when they do, and I experience a real runner's high, there is nothing that beats it.  I think it has been years since I have had a great run like this.  I spent a lot of time hating running and experiencing pain after the marathon and then took a clear year off running.  So my best run ever would be circa 2008!

2.  Three words that describe my Running
Rewarding. Frustrating. Amateur.  Amateur in a good way.  I don't pretend to be some awesome runner.  Running has proven a very rewarding experience in my life.  I am so proud of what I have accomplished through running, but it hasn't come without its share of frustrations.  I am happy right now that I am looking forward to running again.  There was a long time that I really didn't like it at all.

3.  My go-to running outfit
My favorite running outfit includes Nike shorts, a dry-fit tank top and bright shoes.  It has been so long since I have run consistently that I don't even know what shoes I run in anymore.  I also really love wearing my tights.  They have to be the most comfortable pants I own!

4.  Quirky running habit
Having to pee right before every single run.  Not 5 minutes before, but immediately.

5.  Morning, noon or night?
Definitely morning.  If I don't get my run in in the morning it won't happen.

6.  I won't run outside when it's...
I've pretty much run in everything at this point.  Snow doesn't even turn me off that terribly.  I shy away from extreme cold or heat, but it doesn't mean I won't do it.

7.  My worst running injury and how I got over it
During marathon training I was always injured.  I ended the race with a stress-fracture in my right ankle and hobbled around in a boot for weeks.  Lots and lots of rest, stretching and foam rolling combined with chiropractic care and new shoes helped me to even out my stride so I could run pain-free again.  If ever training again for a big race and distance I will stick to 3 days a week running and lots of cross training including yoga.

8.  I felt most like a badass runner when...
When I completed my marathon.  Yup.  I did it!

9.  Next race is...
My Birthday 5k!  This will be the third annual.  Each year I choose a 5k to run the weekend of my birthday and invite all my friends.  Last year my mom even ran with me.  This year we will be participating in the Sprint into Spring 5k in Troutman, NC.  Consider this your official invitation to my birthday party!
This race is so important to me because I love that my friends all come with me, but also because it will be my first race post-baby.  This is my one fitness goal I have set for myself so far.

10.  Potential running goal for 2013
Well, I already mentioned running a 5k on my birthday is my first post-baby fitness goal.  But I have several other goals for 2013: I want to complete a triathlon and I want to run a half marathon.  I would also like to train for a big race with Alex.  Those are pretty lofty goals considering I will also be raising a newborn, so at the moment we have no plans, just desires.  I can't wait to get back out there!

So there you have it...all you ever wanted to know about my running.  I know I still have a bit before I can get back out there but I am excited to start.

What fitness or running goals are you hoping to achieve in 2013?
