Meet Tanya

Hi! I'm Tanya, creator and writer of VeganFaith.com!

I began blogging two years ago as a way to further my career as a wedding planner.  I struggled with writing posts and didn't find my groove as a blogger until several months later.

While being a wedding planner had been my dream career since college, I wasn't really enjoying my work.  Somewhere between graduating high school and then college and moving to Wisconsin, and then North Carolina, my interests, morals, ideals and motivations had all changed.  I had worked for several years in non-profit and realized that my true dream job was to serve others in some way...whether I was getting paid or not.

In March of 2010 I landed my true dream job.  A new career that affords me a wonderful family-oriented lifestyle while also serving my community.  To top it all off, they even pay me!  I gave up struggling as a wedding planner and I am now the Council Director for Girls on the Run of Iredell and Rowan Counties.

As I began to work for Girls on the Run, my life was opened up to enjoy more time with my husband and experiment with new hobbies.  In January of 2010 I made a commitment to eat compassionately by going vegan and changed my life to be more healthy.   At that same time I became more involved with my church and excited about serving God!  Thus a new blog was born: Vegan Faith.

On this website I chronicle my life story.  From church to babies and date nights to diapers, this blog tells it all.  You will find many delicious vegan recipes, recaps of some of my favorite runs and other workouts, travel plans and stories, and summaries from church as well as my own personal quiet time with God.  Lately you will also find lots of photos and posts about my sweet baby girl.

My life is a story that I choose to share with you.  But first you must get to know the characters in my tales:
Meet Alex/Mr. Kummerow/Forbes.  Isn't he handsome?  Sorry ladies, he's taken!

He is my best friend, my confidant, my stronghold.  Not a day goes by I don't thank God for putting us together!  We are really so wonderful for one another.  Alex is also a Christian and vegan.  We enjoy so many of the same things including adventure, travel, food, running and church!  Several summers ago we traveled to Africa for our one of our best adventures!  (Find out more about our mission trip to Zambia!)  More recently, however, we have embarked on our best adventure yet: parenting!

On November 6, 2012 our baby girl Eleanor Margaret was born.  Life is full of so much joy now.  And this blog is full of her!
I'd also like to share that this blog is no longer 100% vegan.  When I began writing here over three years ago I was committed to the vegan lifestyle.  Lately I would say I'm not really committed to anything outside of my faith and family.  You will have to excuse and forgive my vegan hiatus while I figure out who I am as a follower of Jesus, wife to Alex, and mom to sweet Eleanor.  But for those who are interested, I do love being vegan and still would recommend it.  You can read about my food journey below:

Why Vegan?

What I would really love for you to know however, is why I choose to be a Christian.  Read more about that journey here:

Why Faith?

  4. Hi there. I have followed your blog for several months and read it every day. I've missed you since you've been gone and I'm worried about you. Please let us know that you are okay and let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I hope you are just resting and relaxing, but I wanted to check in and make sure. Yours, Amber
