An unexpected meeting

Did you miss me yesterday?

I have no idea what happened to me yesterday, but I didn't have a moment to spare.  It might have something to do with the large shipment of t-shirts that came in for Girls on the Run, the sorting that ensued and all the deliveries I made!

So I began to type this post while relaxing on a comfy chair outside Starbucks, my feet perched on the table/stool in front me, when all of a sudden the delicious aroma of a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich came over me (yes, even vegans think the savory smell of breakfast sandwiches is great!)  I realized the aroma was coming directly from my feet...then I snapped out of my own world and realized there were two people sitting in the chairs across from me, eating off the same table my feet were on!

I was appalled and immediately removed my feet.  But the man sitting there excused himself and apologized.  "Are we bothering you?" he asked?  Absolutely not!  I just didn't want my feet right next to your breakfast, I should be the one apologizing!  And then he moved his breakfast and insisted I kick my feet back up!  And then offered to buy me a cup of coffee!  Of course I declined the coffee, but I welcomed an amazing conversation with a beautiful young woman and her father.

Needless to say, today's post is completely different than planned. I was going to share with you recipe and food, but it is just like God to tangle our plans and reveal to us his true purpose.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

So rather than write my blog post then, I got acquainted with Dan and Sidney.  Here's what I learned: Sidney is getting married this weekend!  She teaches voice lessons and is originally from Ohio.  Dan is from St. Petersburg, Florida originally...and isn't that funny because so am I!  So we bonded over that, shared stories about Twistee Treat- one of my favorite ice cream places of all times!  He actually owned a franchise!

And then we started to talk about the wedding, I mentioned I used to be a wedding planner (remember that is why I started the blog!)  They asked me what I do for a living now.  I told them about Girls on the Run...which was the whole reason I happened to be at Starbucks on this particular morning.  Sidney asked for my card, and in turn she handed me one of hers.  It read:

Helping Orphans Worldwide

Amazing, I thought!  I turned the card over and read how they are currently working at the Royal School and Orphanage in Mityana, Uganda.  So I shared with them my plans to travel to Africa this summer to work with the Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Center in Mwandi.

We continued to share with one another our mutual love for God, travel, marriage, life.  And just like that, a normal morning turned into an extraordinary one.  I felt overwhelmed with the presence of the Holy Spirit at this chance meeting of kindred spirits.  Amazing doesn't seem to describe it well enough.  We chatted for almost an hour!

Sidney mentioned the food in Africa and I mentioned Mr. Kummerow and I are vegans.  So is her sister!  And then...I randomly mentioned the blog to explain what I was doing when we first began chatting.  Sidney and her sister Jordan are also into food blogs.  She was thrilled at the idea of a blog that incorporates food, faith and Africa...3 of her favorite things.  My three favorite things!

My ordinary Wednesday turned out to be nothing of the sort.  I feel so blessed to be in the right place at the right time to connect with these amazing people who have a heart for Christ and so many similar interests as me.   But Dan reminded us that it isn't chance.  It is God's precious way of showing his children how much he loves us by connecting us to one another!  What a very, very cool experience.  I need to talk to strangers more often!

Check out the Love Grows website and learn more about this amazing organization!  I know I am anxious to learn more and to meet up with Dan and Sidney again!

Regular scheduled posting will resume later!  Have a great day!
