Africa!

I posted on Facebook a few days ago that Mr. Kummerow and I are headed to Africa!  Well I received so many questions that I wanted to share with you more about our mission trip and why we have decided to go.  If you missed it, about a week ago I also made this announcement on the blog.  If you missed it, catch up here.

Well, today I bring you a short video to share with you in person about our decision and about the mission trip.  Enjoy!

Note to self: no more videos taken in the morning!  I am appalled at my lack of hygiene in this video, and I apologize!  But the thought of recording myself again is just too much to bear, so instead you get to enjoy me at my finest: early in the morning!

Here some deets about the trip:

We leave June 20 and will be first flying into Johannesburg and then into Livingstone before finally making it to our destination in Mwandi.  We will spend several days in Johannesburg and Livingstone to help acclimate to the new cultures and climate.  Once we arrive in Mwandi it will be all hands-on-deck. We will be gone for a total of 18 days and return on July 8, flying into Indiana as I mentioned in the video above for a wedding!

I am excited to bring you lots more details about the trip, and I plan to start an Africa series on the blog, bringing weekly updates about our plans and blogging as much as possible while we are in Mwandi.

In the meantime, I would love if you would consider supporting Mr. Kummerow and I, either in prayer or financially.  Pray for us that the Holy Spirit would use us to bless others in extraordinary ways.  Please also pray for our safety and the safety of the others on this trip and that God will provide all of our needs.

God calls all different kinds of people to mission.  Some are called to do, just as I believe Alex and I are at this time.  Others are called to give.   If you feel God leading you to give to our mission trip, we would really appreciate your support.  Obviously traveling to Africa is a costly trip and financial support is needed.  it will cost each one of us more than $3500.  We have stepped out in faith that God will provide and I thank you in advance for your consideration and any gift you are able to make.

If you are interested in making a contribution, please make checks payable to First Presbyterian Church and mention Mwandi Mission 2011 in the memo line.  You can mail the checks to Alex and Tanya Kummerow at:

PO Box 5063
Mooresville, NC 28117

Again, thank you so much for listening to my story and for your prayers and encouragement!  I am so excited to bring you on this journey with us.  I am hoping that through this blog I will be able to enrich the lives of my readers as well as the lives in Mwandi, Zambia.
