Spectator Sports

This was my view for over an hour this morning. Perfect vantage point for the 10 or 15 runners I was cheering for today!
At first, running might not seem like the coolest spectator sport, but I challenge you to attend any running event and not be caught up in the excitement and spirit.  While a tight end might make it into the endzone or a batter crack the ball out of the park, running a race like a half marathon or marathon takes such a level of endurance, you just can't help but be excited for the runner!

I love Thunder Road because of its close-proximity to home.  I believe I could probably head out to Thunder Road without knowing of anyone that is running, and still find a few finishers that I am acquainted with.  In fact, I saw many folks today that I had no idea were running.

Mr. Kummerow and I woke early this morning, threw on many, many layers and headed over to John and Chrissy's to pick up their son Nathan.  Nathan hung out with us all morning while John and Chrissy ran the half-marathon.

We also swung by Angie's and picked her up to join us for some spectating this morning.  After seeing John and Chrissy off to the start line...we belined it to Starbucks for a warm treat and then back to the finish line in high anticipation!  Here is Mr. Kummerow looking sexy as ever (my, my he is a good looking man...and I am not just saying that because I am biased!)
Kristin finished in just under 2 hours!  I was so proud of her!  I remember our first 5 mile run together, and then the 7 mile and 9 mile runs.  She is so awesome, speedy, and determined!  I couldn't be happier for her!
John and Chrissy were not far behind and made running a half marathon look so easy!  They crossed the finish line with smiles on their faces!
This photo was taken literally seconds after they finished.  We passed Nathan over the fence and I snapped the picture!  These two couldn't make running look anymore beautiful!

Shawn also ran his first half-marathon today!
Shawn did an excellent job and Vanessa will be running her first half in just a few weeks at Disney!  Good luck Vanessa!

Honestly, I love cheering at these races!  Perhaps I'm just so excited I am not running!  (I really do love much as I sandbag it on this blog!)  But in all seriousness...I think every runner should take the opportunity to cheer on other runners.  Pay it forward!  I know it helps so much to have folks cheering for me when I pushing those miles!

After the race was over, Mr. Kummerow and I did a bit of Christmas shopping and then headed over to John and Chrissy's to properly celebrate their finish today!

Um, yes...properly celebrating means having a full glass of champagne in hand at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon!  Just in case you were wondering!
And because I promised a recipe it is:

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels

2 cups peanut butter pretzels (I found mine at BJs but I think they sell them other places too)
1 cup vegan chocolate chips (I'm not sure if carob will work, below is the brand I used)
3 tbsp Dark Chocolate Almond Milk

In microwave, heat chocolate chips in 30 second increments, stirring each time, until fully melted.  Mine took about 2 1/2 minutes to melt.  Stir in dark chocolate almond milk, one tablespoon at a time, to thin out the chocolate.  I used a tupperware with a lid to melt the chocolate, then tossed in the peanut butter pretzels, topped with the lid and shook vigorously to coat the pretzels in chocolate.

Once coated, spread on wax paper and let the chocolate harden.  I tossed them in the freezer for about an hour to make sure they were solid before serving.  They should harden at room temperature, however.
These are so delicious!  Perfect snack for runners I should say!  I mean it has protein and carbs...can't beat that!  Enjoy!

We are off to do more Christmas celebrating at our friends' annual Christmas Party!  Check out the invitation:
I was so excited that the blog made it on the I thought it was only fitting for the invitation to make it on the blog!  I love the Hoffman's!  Can't wait to see them!

What Christmas festivities do you have planned?  I can't wait for the Annual Cookie Party next weekend.  Read about last year's on this post!  That was one of my first ever blog entries!
