Dehydrator Projects

The perfect bowl of oats begins with a banana, in my opinion.  These days I am attached to my bowl of banana oats.  I am shocked and amazed I didn't discover this earlier.  When you mash a banana into the oats before cooking, you do not need any sweetener.  The warm banana is all the sweetness you need!  (Oh-except for the crumbled carrot cake cookie bite on top!)
This particular bowl of Banana Oats

1/2 mashed banana
1/4 cup quick oats
1 tbsp flax seed meal
1 tbsp wheat germ
3/4 cup water

Mix all ingredients and pop in micro for 2 minutes.  Top with dried fruit and nuts and of course...a cookie!  Enjoy!

I mentioned briefly about my new dehydrator.  Now, let me give you more details.  When Mr. Kummerow and I helped our friends move last weekend, we acquired quite a few items that were no longer wanted.  The dehydrator being one of them, a large George Foreman being the other.  Mr. Kummerow wants to return the George Foreman...he says we don't need it.  But the dehydrator is a different story.  It is already in action and working on project #2!

Remember #1?
Green beans.  Here's the making...
We let these sit for about 36 hours until they were nice and crispy!  I didn't add any oil or salt or anything else.  When they came out they were sweet and savory!

Project #2 is now underway...
I just love my harvest decorations...I'll be sad to take them down after this weekend!
I sliced 3 organic apples from my Absolute Organics delivery today.  Each apple took one layer of the dehydrator.  The first layer I sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar.  The second layer with plain cinnamon and the third layer is just plain.

I'm not sure how long to dehydrate for.  I will just check continuously over the next several days.  I don't even know what brand I have or what the temperature runs.  All I know is that I'm excited.  I love apple chips!  Trust me, I will keep you posted on the outcome!

Thanks Melisa and Den!

  1. gotta keep the foreman! it makes killer veggie burgers and paninis! everything looks so yummy, too, btw! I'm coming to your house to eat! God bless.

  2. I am definitely going to be trying your oatmeal recipe that includes a banana. I'm always looking for ways to improve my oats. Recently I put cranberry sauce (homemade) and pomegrantes on it, yum!
