2011 Resolutions

I wasn't sure when I wanted to post this, but now seems as good a time as any.  First, it is Christmas Eve, and at this house not much is going on.  In fact, our butts have not been removed from the couch yet and it is 10am.  We are thoroughly enjoying the Regis and Kelly Christmas Special re-runs and thankfully America's Funniest Home Videos is on and we are channel flipping between the two. 

Second, this post comes directly after my 20 mile post and although I have not yet completed my marathon, I feel like I am there.  Let's be honest, the real work is all in the training.  The hardest part is over.  Yes, I still have 3 weeks to go and 26.2 miles to finish on January 16, but I'm feeling great, and I know at this point, no matter what happens I have tried my best. 

So with my 2010 New Year's Resolutions almost complete (see here about my successes and failures) I am ready to bring you 2011 Goals!  Why do I make New Year's Resolutions?  Yes, I am semi-caught up in the hype of making resolutions and forgetting them 2 months into the new year.  But I also truly believe in setting goals and accomplishing them.  You never know what you can do if you never try.  Case and Point: marathon training!
First resolution: take more pictures of humans, specifically Mr. Kummerow and me!  The food pictures out number people photos 10 to 1!  And the photos of me and Mr. Kummerow are few and far between. 

Second: Try a Tri!  I am very excited about this.  I have the bike, I can swim, and I can run.  Of course a triathlon is in order!  I am also excited to cut back in running miles and amp up the cross training!

Third: I have many other races on my to-do list...not sure if these are resolutions, so much as a general wants but here are the races I intend to complete (not to be confused with compete!)
  1. Lake Norman Triathlon
  2. Starfish 5k (with Mr. Kummerow)
  3. Adventure Race (haven't chosen which one yet)
  4. Mud Run or Muddy Buddy
  5. Triple Lakes Trail Race- any distance
  6. Pumpkin Run 8k (with Mr. Kummerow)
Notice there are no marathons or half marathons in that list!

Fourth: Pay off all debt except my one student loan.  The student loan will be 2012 resolution and then Mr. Kummerow and I will be debt-free (everything but the house)!  Go Dave-Ramsey!

Fifth: Start a retirement fund.  Not exactly in order of baby steps, but I'm not getting any younger and my current job does not offer retirement benefits.  I need to take matters into my own hands and start preparing for my future!

Sixth: Be more organized at work.  Because I work from home, there is no accountability to the wreckage of an office I keep.  I need to be more organized!

Seventh: Budget $25-$50 to buy holiday items on sale after each major holiday!  I always say I'm going to do this, but then I never feel like buying the items after the holiday is over.  So I will buy a few things each holiday this year.

Eighth: Strengthen my ever-evolving relationship with Jesus Christ through daily Bible study and prayer and (for the third year in a row) finish reading the Bible!  By the way, I made great progress in 2010, but reading the bible is a process and I am not discouraged I did not finish this resolution last year, but even more resolved to find out what is in this wonderful book!


Ninth: Use less TP.  And by TP I do mean toilet paper!  I know, this is kinda odd, but I honestly am tired of buying the stuff.  We go through way too much for two people.  I plan to be more aware of how much I use!  Sorry if that is weird for you!

Tenth: Don't lose any weight.  For a full explanation read this post.  This one still makes me nervous, but I think it could be the key to peace from disordered eating this year.

Well I really wanted 11 for 11, but I think 10 is good enough!  What are your New Year's Resolutions?  How do you stick to them?  For me, posting them on the blog helps hold me accountable.  First, I have no excuse for forgetting, because I have the archives.  And second, I have all of you to help support and encourage me.  Share yours with me so I can help support and encourage you!

Today, my only goals are to prepare the casserole I am bringing for tomorrow's dinner and attend Christmas Eve service at church tonight.  We are going early to participate in Advent Prayer Stations and I am really excited to spend this time reflecting on the great gift of Jesus.  For now, more channel surfing and laying around on the couch!
