20 miles...done and done!

I wrote a whole blog post about all my favorite Holiday Recipes and forgot to post it this morning.  Even this morning would have been a late entry for Holiday Recipes...and now it is too late!  I'm sure you already have your meals all planned out!  However, I put in the effort, so directly following this quick post, you will also see my Holiday Recipe Roundup.  Maybe it won't be too late for some of you late planners!

In other news: I ran 20 miles today!  Wait, did you hear me? I RAN 20 MILES!  I honestly did not think that I would be able to make that announcement when 6 weeks ago I ran into knee, IT band, and foot issues.  And while I feel like I have probably complained too much to my readers about these issues, in reality I probably have not mentioned it as much as I thought.  Because I have been dealing with pain every day, I just assume everyone knows.  But the reality is, I have kept it mostly to myself because what I hear is that I need to quit running.  Quitting was not an option.  After several x-rays and doctor's visits...nothing was inherently injured.  Maybe it was the wrong choice to press on, but I gotta tell you that I feel great right now.  Yes my leg hurts, yes it was painful...but I have accomplished something bigger than I ever thought possible!

On another high note, I have figured out how to fuel properly and I feel very well prepared for the marathon.  I am able to eat a full breakfast before a run without any stomach issues.  I am able to drink plenty of fluids during the run and consume calories throughout.  Here is a run down of what I have eaten/drank today:

Breakfast- two leftover Gingerbread Pancakes (from last night's dinner) with Peanut Butter made from TJ's Peanut Flour and a sliced banana on top and a cup of Kukicha tea.

Before the run- a handful of Gingerbread Chex Mix and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup and lots of water.

During the Run- 8 oz Cytomax, about 32 oz water throughout and a Jet Blackberry Gu at 7.5 miles, and a Medjool date at 15 miles.

Immediately after the Run- more water, lots more water, and a banana
1st Dinner- (I finished running a little before 5pm) brown rice with sauteed kale and tofu in Shoyu sauce with Kale chips on the side.

2nd Dinner- Amy's Black Bean and Veggie soup with 1/4 Rye Bagel toasted...and a glass of red wine!  Well deserved!

That brings us up to speed.  I felt strong throughout the run and never felt nauseous during or after. Sorry there aren't any photos.  I'm sad I didn't document this amazing accomplishment but I gotta tell you I was so nervous, I couldn't think of anything.  I even scrubbed toilets this morning to get my mind off of the run before it was time to go.

Now I'm off to eat some Christmas cookies and veg on the couch!  Merry Christmas!
