Favorite men take 2

Ok, so I couldn't just write about the Kummerow men and not go further about the Emde men in my life. So you already know so much about "Brother Bear" but I may have forgotten to mention at any previous time how wonderful my dad is.

First of all, I am so very thankful that my parents are married. It seems to be a rarity and although they have had their ups and downs, I know they still love each other. Right now my parents are "empty-nesters." My little brother just went to college and now my parents are just trying to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives. For now it involves many bike rides (on the Harley) and hopefully many trips to NC to visit me!

My dad is the coolest dad, and I would have to say I've learned whatever sense of humor I have from him. The term "daddy joke" was coined because of him, and of course there is the always famous "hiLarryous" (hilarious). His name is Larry. He taught us about invisible fish (they don't exist) and why they had to put up barbed wire around the cemetery (everyone was just dying to get in). And see below for my personal favorite: "Goooooooooo Emde's!" Well today, he only has one child with the last name Emde still, the rest of us have all been married off...but we will always be Emde's and I will always be thankful of where I came from no matter what my name is.

My dad just celebrated another birthday a few days ago, and unfortunately I couldn't be there to celebrate with him. In fact, I believe it has been many years since I have been able to be with him on his birthday. This year I did the unthinkable, and I forgot to call him. Now of course I have every excuse in the world...it was the middle of registration, etc, etc...but it made me really sad and I know that it made him utterly sad as well. I have been so selfish lately and busy with everything, I am forgetting my priorities.

You know how cool my dad is, he emailed me that garden fresh salad photo I mentioned in my blog several weeks ago. I was so surprised to see that email because I wasn't really sure that I had even asked him to send it. So when I finally talked to him on the phone the other day, he asked me if I was surprised to get that photo..and I said "well, yes." He asked me if I knew how he knew to send it, and I told him I wasn't sure. And so he told me he read my blog. My dad read my blog. That made my day!

So dad, I know I didn't call on your birthday, but I'm hoping this shout-out to you will some how make up for it. In any case, I hope this makes your day! So Happy Birthday Dad! I love you!
